2.00pm-6.00pm: Ecology exhibition
"Like an echo ton" is the title of the exhibition of four artists gathered in the framework of the annual Post_Production programme. It is based on a play on the word "ecotone", which defines a "transition zone between two ecosystems, where the environmental conditions are intermediate". Thus, in landscape ecology, the word is used to describe certain boundaries between different natural conditions, for example the transition from a forest to a savannah, from an alluvial zone to a non-flooded one. It is then a question of describing an in-between, not a narrow border, an abstract line. Rather, it is the space where two universes with their own characteristics meet and which, at the place of the ecotone that links them, intermingle their specificities.
Price: Free (open house)
Meeting point: FRAC Occitanie, 4 rue Rambaud (Quartier Gambetta - Figuerolles)

Saturday 22 October

9.00am-6.30pm : Excursion to Arles, Camargues and Saintes Maries de la Mer
First of all, we will take the opportunity to discover the Roman monuments listed as World Heritage by Unesco: the amphitheatre and its 25,000 seats, famous for its gladiatorial and bullfighting games today. Then we will continue to the ancient Roman theatre and the ancient baths of Constantine. We will then discover the religious monuments such as the Romano-Gothic cathedral of St. Trôphime, the starting point of the Compostela route. Finally we will visit the famous garden of the former hospital and night café, painted by the Dutch expressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. We will discover the Camargue and its specific animals: pink flamingos, bulls, horses. The ponds mix with the land or the opposite, man cultivates rice, salt and vines. A town by the sea symbolises this region: Les Saintes Maries de la mer and its fortified Romanesque church, a place of Christian pilgrimage on the road to St Jacques. Pilgrims come here to venerate the relics of the St Maries (Mary Jacoba: aunt of Jesus and Mary Salome: mother of the apostles James and John). The gypsy community gathers here every year to celebrate the relics of their patron saint, Saint Sara. This village is considered one of the oldest Christian cults in the West.

The first port and capital of the French Mediterranean, Marseille is a magnificent city between the Camargue, the Alps and the French Riviera. We will go up to visit the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, a 19th century neo-Byzantine church, a pilgrimage of the Marseillais nicknamed the Good Mother. The view of the city and the castle of If, the famous Count of Monte Cristo, is exceptional. Then we will walk along the Old Port to discover the Roman Dock Museum and the narrow streets of the Panier district. We will finish the visit of the district by the Old Charity. We will then visit the Notre Dame de la Major Cathedral which has one of the highest domes in the world. Combining Roman and Oriental styles, it is a real treasure with Byzantine arches, white marble and beautiful mosaics inside. Finally we will end our day at Fort St John and its towers which guard the entrance to the city's port. The view of the port is magnificent.
