Activity programme from 1 to 7 November 2021

The sun is shining and the sky is still blue in Montpellier! A new week begins with a great programme: between visits of the city, yoga classes (ashtanga), dance sessions (swing) and excursions, our students don't see the time passing! And in French, of course!

Monday 1st November - CLOSED DAY! THE SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED! WE OFFER A FREE EXCURSION TO OUR STUDENTS!
1.45pm-6.30pm: Excursion to Nîmes
Visit of the Jardins de la Fontaine, an ancient Roman necropolis built around the Nemausus spring, visit of the temple of Diana. Passing in front of the former great Roman temple: the Maison Carré and interior visit of the arena, former Roman amphitheatre, known for its gladiator and bull shows (interior visit not included). Visit to the Romanesque cathedral of St Castor. Free time in the city. Local biscuits offered

Tuesday 2 November
1.30pm-4.30pm: Free visit of the Jardin des Plantes of Montpellier
You can stroll in the shade of the bamboo grove or along the shady paths of the English garden, admire the Martins greenhouse and its "succulent" plants or dream on the banks of the lotus pond in the footsteps of André Gide or Paul Valéry. Founded in 1593 by Henri IV, the oldest botanical garden in France extends over nearly 5 hectares in the heart of Montpellier. Attached to the Faculty of Medicine, this space once entirely dedicated to research and teaching continues to attract researchers from around the world. The Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier is listed as a site (12 February 1982) and has been protected as a Historic Monument since 3 September 1992.

5.15pm-6.45pm: Yoga class with Arnaud
Ashtanga Yoga is characterised by the sequence of postures (Asana) punctuated by the Ujjayi breath, chest breathing associated with different points of concentration. The postures follow each other quite quickly. This yoga is at first a very complete physical practice, becoming progressively a way of interiority when the practitioner acquires experience.
Price: 10€/class or 72€ for a card of 6 classes

Wednesday 3 November
6.00pm - 7.20pm: Ashtanga Yoga class with Saadia

Thursday 4 November
1.45pm-6.30pm: Excursion to the Pont du Gard with Jérémie
Length of the bridge 300 meters, for a total distance of 50km. This aqueduct was used to supply water to the city of Nîmes, to supply the ancient thermal baths and fountains of the city. Come and discover this unique monument, visited by 1.5 million tourists every year. Walk in the nature along the aqueduct. River swimming possible in summer.

6:00pm-9:00pm: Cooking class with Les Ateliers d'Arthur
During the adult cooking classes, you will make the entire recipe, and leave with all of your creations. An alternation of sweet and savoury recipes will be offered throughout the year.

Friday 5 November
12.15pm-1.15pm: Aperitif on the school's terrace and presentation of certificates
Come and spend a convivial moment with the other students of the school, we will take the opportunity to give their certificates to the departing students!

1.30pm-6.30pm: Excursion to Aigues-Mortes with Jérémie
Half day excursion. Visit of the oldest French port in the Mediterranean (departure of the last two crusades in the Middle Ages), a fortified medieval town built in the 13th century, surrounded by intact ramparts almost 2 km long, view of the ramparts and the Constance tower (former lighthouse from the 13th century, then former Protestant prison and its famous prisoner Marie Durand), panoramic view of the town, the ponds of the Camargue, the salt mountains of the "salins du midi", the pink flamingos, the pink salt pans. Free time in the city. Tasting of fougasse (orange blossom brioche), a sweet speciality of Aigues-Mortes. Panorama on a pretty beach of the Languedoc coastline.

Saturday 6 November
9.00am-6.30pm : Excursion to Arles & Baux de Provence with Jérémie
First of all, we will take the opportunity to discover the Roman monuments listed as World Heritage by Unesco: the amphitheatre and its 25,000 seats, famous for its gladiatorial and bullfighting games today. Then we will continue to the ancient Roman theatre, the Baths of Constantine, the underground galleries of the former imperial palace. We will then discover the religious monuments such as the cathedral and its Romanesque-Gothic cloister. Finally we will visit the famous garden of the former hospital and night café, painted by the Dutch expressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. The rest of the day will be spent discovering the charming village of Les Baux de Provence, which is well known as the "Balcony of Provence". This village, surrounded by cliffs, has a magnificent view of Provence. Its castle, Romanesque church, medieval streets and Santon museum will transport you into the history of Provence.

Sunday 7 November
9.00am - 6.30pm: Excursion to Carcassonne with Jérémie
Come and discover its 3 km of double ramparts, its 52 towers, its castle, its ancient Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and its magnificent stained glass windows. Unesco heritage site, famous set for many films shot in the city, we will discover its many hidden treasures, a real leap into the past (entrance to the castle and ramparts not included). Enjoy a cassoulet, the city's famous speciality.
