The TCF IRN is for any foreigner over 16 years of age who wishes to validate their level of French for :

an application for French nationality (level B1)
an application for a long-term resident's card (level A2)
validation of the A1 level as part of the OFII citizenship programme

New TCF IRN scheme: 4 mandatory tests

Listening comprehension (20 questions) - group test

Time: 15 minutes

Written comprehension (20 questions) - group test

Time: 20 minutes

Written expression (3 tasks) - group test

Time: 30 minutes

Oral expression (3 tasks) - individual test

Time: 10 minutes*

There are exemptions for :

people who hold an official diploma. The minimum level required is level 3 of the national nomenclature of training levels (Brevet des collèges, CAP). However, you should check with the prefectural authorities to make sure that your diploma will be accepted;
persons holding a French language diploma of at least A2 level (DELF, DU, DCL);
people suffering from a disability or a chronically deficient state of health (proof to be presented to the prefecture).
In this case, you can contact the prefecture services directly.

CERTIFICATION FOR THE FRENCH LANGUAGE TEST (TCF)
